Our Lab
Abington Reproductive Diagnostics, our state-of-the-art testing lab located next to our main offices in Abington, Pennsylvania, features certified lab technicians who work closely with doctors and nurses to interpret patients’ hormone levels. These results are then used to safely monitor each patient’s cycles.
While we currently run Estradiol, bhCG, Progesterone, Quantitative hCG, LH and FSH, new, leading-edge capabilities and equipment are continually implemented to offer you the best quality services and care.
Abington Reproductive Diagnostics participates in numerous insurance plans, and our staff members will work closely with you to determine—and accommodate—your testing needs. Our lab is certified and monitored for quality assurance by all appropriate federal and state agencies.
As High Complexity Laboratory Director, Scott E. Smith, Ph.D., H.C.L.D., leads our clinical team of embryologists and andrologists at the Abington IVF and Genetics,Toll Center for Reproductive Sciences at Abington Memorial Hospital.
Within his first year at Abington Memorial Hospital, Dr. Smith launched an onsite Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) program and prepared the hospital’s laboratories for accreditation by the College of American Pathologists. Thanks to the hard work of Dr. Smith and his team, we became the first laboratory in Pennsylvania to offer onsite PGD for chromosomal abnormalities using fluorescent in situ hybridization, or FISH. Dr. Smith also was instrumental in conducting the state’s first successful PGD case to diagnose Huntington's disease. He is currently president of the Delaware Valley Reproductive Biology Group.
Dr. Smith’s areas of interest and expertise include:
• PGD
• Embryo biopsy
• Blastocyst culture
• Embryo and egg freezing
• Micromanipulation
• ICSI
• Assisted Hatching
• Autologous Endometrial Coculture
• Male factor infertility
• Sperm retrieval techniques
• Sperm penetration following testicular and epididymal sperm extraction
• IVF
