A Cooperative Study with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Bruce Lessey, M.D., and William Meyer, M.D.
The fluid that accumulates in blocked fallopian tubes may alter the uterine implantation environment in such a way that successful implantation may be less likely to occur. Preliminary results are encouraging. Patients who are at potential risk (those with hydrosalpinges and missing integrin implantation factors) may enjoy improved pregnancy rates from either transvaginal drainage or surgical removal of the hydrosalpinges prior to undergoing embryo transfer for IVF.
